NEWSOMS - Wayne Carroll Vick, 78, died May 1, 2016, at Southside Hospital, Petersburg, VA after a lengthy illness. He was the son of the late Currie Lee Vick and Bernice Francis Vick. Born in Newsoms, VA, he was a life-time farmer as well as a
16-year employee of Union-Camp Corporation and served 25 years with the U. S. Postal Service. He was a devoted member of Newsoms Baptist Church where he served as deacon, trustee, teacher and mentor to many throughout his life.
Mr. Vick served his community as an active member of the Newsoms Ruritan Club and the Southampton County Farm Bureau Board. He was a Mason for more than 50 years having been District Deputy of the 32nd Masonic District, past Master of Newsoms Masonic Lodge #128 and member of Courtland Masonic Lodge #85.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria Beaton Vick, two daughters: Sherry V. Pope and Denise V. Riddick (Thomas). He was very proud of his four grandsons: David Earl Pope, Jr., Daniel Thomas Riddick (Mary), John Currie Riddick, Joshua Wayne Riddick and his great-grandson, Walker Brandon Riddick. He was predeceased by a sister, Ethel Vick, and his son-in-law, David Earl Pope.
The funeral service will be held in the Newsoms Baptist Church on Thursday, May 5, at 3:00 PM conducted by the Reverends Armand Jalbert and Kenneth Williams. Interment will be in Hollywood Cemetery, Newsoms.
