Marvin Wesley Raiford, Sr. of Waverly passed away peacefully Friday, December 1, 2017. Born February 15, 1946, he was a son of the late Marion James Raiford and Esther Collier Raiford. Marvin served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam with the 1st Calvary Division. He was a member of Millfield Baptist Church, The Waverly Ruritan Club, and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Aubrey Raiford and his sister, Clara Bains

 Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Brenda Cowling Raiford; his daughters, Laura Raiford Bell and her husband, Kenny, and Jennifer Raiford Corl and her husband, Jamie; his son, Marvin Wesley “Wes” Raiford, Jr. and his wife, Melissa; his grandchildren, Jessica and Justin Corl, Cameron and Donald Raiford, and Derek Shawver;  his brother, James Raiford and his wife, Carole and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, December 4, 2017 at Waverly Congregational Christian Church with Rev. Charles Willman, II officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Waverly Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 583 Waverly, VA 23890, or to Waverly Congregational Christian Church, P.O. Box 636 Waverly, VA 23890. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Wakefield Chapel is serving the family.
