Calvin T. Davis, 90, passed away on February 24, 2016. He was born in Branchville, Virginia to the late Collis and Ethel Taylor Davis. Calvin graduated Boykins High school, received a BS degree from Virginia Tech, and a Masters degree from William and Mary. Mr. Davis had many achievements. He served 37 years in the Suffolk Public School system as a teacher, high school principal, and Director of Vocational Education. He served as President of the Nansemond County Education Association and Mayor of Whaleyville. Calvin was a member of the original Suffolk Tomorrow Board and served on the original Board of the Paul D. Camp Community College. He was a volunteer fireman in the first Whaleyville Fire Department and a member of Whaleyville Ruritan Club for over 50 years. Mr. Davis was a US Army Veteran having served in the European Theater of Operations during World War II. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years, Lois Anderson Davis, sister; Christine Grizzard, children; Taylor Davis Susan, Debbie Jenkins Dan, grandchildren; Jamie Davis Jeanie, Leigh Davis, Blair Davis, Taylor Jenkins, Ryan Jenkins Courtney, and Paul Jenkins Leandra. A funeral service will be held Friday February 26, 2016 at 2:30 PM at Great Fork Baptist Church, 180 Great Fork Rd. Suffolk, with Dr. Donald Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday February 25, 2016 from 7-8 PM at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory 509 W Washington St. Suffolk.
