Colleges are closing or converting to online courses, schools K-12 are closed in many states, professional and collegiate sporting events are either being cancelled or postponed all out of an abundance of caution to reduce the spread of coronavirus.
The following guidance comes from several sources:
The Executive Committee endorses all of these recommendations. In addition, they recommend, unless the travel is deemed essential (an emergency), national officers and directors should avoid travel and visitation until further notice. They also advise districts and clubs to consider the actions being taken in their own locality and make decisions concerning meetings and events, based on those actions, applying common sense. Considering that the President and many state governors have asked citizens to avoid gatherings, districts and clubs should consider cancelling or postponing meetings and gatherings until further notice.
Ruritan exists to serve the community. Sometimes serving the community can mean canceling or postponing meetings so that vulnerable populations are not unnecessarily exposed to viral infections like COVID-19. Rest assured that the Executive Committee is addressing concerns around our awards, such as blue ribbon and perfect attendance and will be recommending to the full board of directors that, because of the circumstances we are in, provisions will be made so that no club, district or individual that exercises caution during this time will be penalized for that caution.
We care about all our Ruritan family. Your health and safety, and that of the community you serve, comes first. Please take whatever actions are necessary to protect it.
The Executive Committee will meet frequently to assess the situation and will update all our members.
For the time being, the National Office will remain open. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the office.
Our best to you and yours,
The Ruritan National Executive Committee
