Due to conflicting schedules and unforeseen circumstances we only had two employees that were able to help with the food distribution last month. Although shorthanded, 6,873 pounds of food was distributed to 133 families.
I must give a SHOUT OUT to Lewis Epps! As we all know, Lewis is always so willing to help anybody at any time. He has participated with the foodbank distribution every time help has been requested and he did so in December while on PTO. Additionally, as a member and Vice President of the Surry County Ruritan Club, he was influential in a donation made to the Foodbank. Lewis’ father, Mr. Billy Epps, Director of the Ruritans, presented a $500 check to the foodbank as captured in the attached picture.
Not only did Billy Epps present the check, he took it upon himself to help food recipients to get bags of groceries to their vehicles. This was not an easy task for a senior citizen that is a cancer survivor and suffers with the pains of arthritis. But, Billy saw that help was needed and he provided a helping hand in effort to make it easier for other people. What a remarkable man!
As the saying goes, “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree!” It’s evident that hardworking, caring, and kind-heartedness is in the DNA of the Epps family. Thank you, Lewis and Billy! You make the world a better place for all.
