18 Boy Scout Leaders from Virginia Beach honored with awards

Twenty-six local Boy Scouts of America leaders, including 18 from Virginia Beach, were presented Legends of Tidewater Council awards on Jan. 31 during a dinner at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Chesapeake.

The Tidewater Council, one of the oldest Boy Scout councils in the U.S., recognized volunteers who have generously given their time and talents in support of the Scouting program in Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and seven northeastern North Carolina counties.

The following Virginia Beach residents were recognized:

 

Cutch Armstrong, an Eagle Scout in the same council where he currently serves as an executive board member;

Lyne Aslett, current council vice president of manpower and leader of Troop 443, chartered by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints;

Norm Aurland, Scoutmaster of Troop 471, chartered by Salem United Methodist Church;

Dave Berger, an Eagle Scout and leader of packs 66 and 660, and Troop 660, all chartered by Kempsville Ruritan Club;

George Coker, an Eagle Scout and volunteer with Troop 62, chartered by Scott Memorial United Methodist Church;

Kent Glover, an Eagle Scout and a Tidewater Council executive board member;

Marie Kane, mother of three Eagle Scouts and leader of Pack 179, Troop 179 and Crew 179, all chartered by St. John the Apostle Catholic Church;

Ron Kilmer, Tidewater Council executive board member, and volunteer with Troop 791, chartered by Nimmo United Methodist Men’s Club;

Phil McGinnis, Tidewater Council executive board member, and Pack 179 and Troop 179 volunteer;

Rick McIlrath, former leader for Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Venturers, and serves on the Princess Anne District committee;

Harold Miley, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Explorers volunteer and part of wood badge training staff; 

Lisa Miller, leader of Troop 363, chartered by Haygood United Methodist Church;

Wes Parker, Eagle Scout, Tidewater Council vice president of camping operations, and Troop 62 volunteer;

Erich Roetz, Tidewater Council executive board member, adviser for Order of the Arrow Blue Heron Lodge, Crew 179 and Troop 791 volunteer;

Dr. Mark Schreiber, an Eagle Scout, Tidewater Council executive board member and a past Council president;

 

Mike Scott, leader of Troop 499, chartered by Carrow Baptist Church;

J.W. Washington, an adult Boy Scout leader for almost 27 years and volunteer with Pack 934 and Troop 934, chartered by First Baptist Church South Hill in Chesapeake;

Channing Zucker, Eagle Scout, honorary Council board member, and volunteer with Troop 417, chartered by St. Andrew’s United Methodist Men.
