Hampton, VA — Ruritans attending the 88th Annual Ruritan National Convention, brought over 220 of Rudy Bears - the Ruritan mascot. The bears were presented to the Hampton Division – Community Engagement Unit and Hampton Fire & Rescue. In addition, Chemo Caps were hand-made and brought for cancer patients.

The Ruritan National Foundation hosted a Birthday Celebration reception in honor of the close of the 50th Anniversary year. In addition, a silent and live auction were held where $12,400 was raised for scholarships.
The Ruritan Convention also featured a range of entertainment beginning with an opening ceremony on Thursday night that paid tribute to flags of the Ruritan states as well as memorialized Ruritans who died in the last year. The convention also featured a luncheon honoring First Lady Linda Cox as well as a variety of educational workshops. The Installation Banquet on Saturday night featured a performance by Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr who is the soul and Sinatra-singing season six winner of NBC TV’s “America’s Got Talent”.
