At the recent “Ladies Night” evening, the Zuni Ruritan Club discovered an amazing talent. The entertainment for the evening was the Newsome family of Ivor, VA. (Father- Curtis- plays the backup guitar; Son- Curt- plays banjo and bass; and Son- Wyatt- plays Mandolin.) They may well be on their way to a long and successful run on the next “America’s Got Talent!” The boys pick bluegrass and sing gospel. According to their mom, they already know over 100 songs, We would highly recommend them for a club program to any looking for an inspiring evening of toe-tapping music.

Britney Lowe (left) and Kent Boyce (right) are the scholarship recipients from Black Creek Burdette Ruritan Club. The checks were presented 6/1/10 at the club’s monthly meeting and included both of their families. Sammy Carr (center) is the treasurer of the club and made the presentation.

Mr. Parrish is a retired auto technician of 50 years and is a member of Eureka Baptist Church. He is encouraged by his wife Debbie, four daughters, Cindy, Diana, Suzy and Nancy as well as his five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Thirteen club members participated in the spaghetti and meatball lunch served with salad, hot bread with ice cream and cookies for dessert. The thirteen members incurred a total of 61 hours to purchase, prepare, serve and clean up after the meal.

Most of the outside groups that come and prepare meals normally supply soup and a sandwich. Cypress started the spaghetti dinner with salad, hot bread and ice cream, cakes or cookies. The people look forward to us coming and providing the meal, knowing it will be one of the better meals they receive.

This year we served 119 meals, which included 30 meals sent to the toy center, 16 meals were sent to the staff at the building downtown, 59 walk-ins and the 13 Ruritan members. In 2008 we served 110 meals. Thursday is one of the days that they provide meals at the building on a weekly basis.
